Can an ovulation test determine pregnancy?

Tracking my cycle with ovulation tests, I'm hoping to conceive soon. I've heard conflicting information online, with some people saying these tests can also detect pregnancy. Can an ovulation test actually determine if someone is pregnant?

In our days, we didn't have all these different plastic strips, and we just waited for the missed period. Beta, an ovulation test is for finding your fertile days, not for confirming a baby. Don't rush these things, just use the proper pregnancy test when the time is right.

I have learned from managing my thyroid that hormone levels are very specific. An ovulation test is simply not designed to detect the HCG pregnancy hormone accurately. If you think you might be pregnant, please get a standard home pregnancy kit or ask your doctor for a blood test.

Listen, I know you are eager to find out, but using the wrong test will only cause you confusion and unnecessary worry. Ovulation tests look for LH, which can mimic HCG, but it's not a reliable way to confirm pregnancy. Do yourself a favor, wait for your period date, and use a proper pregnancy kit.

I completely understand how stressful and agonizing the waiting period can be, and how you just want to test with whatever is in your cabinet. But please know that an ovulation test can easily give you a false result for pregnancy, which might make your anxiety worse. Hang in there, and try to use a proper pregnancy test card when you can.

Chemically, the LH hormone (which ovulation tests measure) and the HCG hormone (pregnancy hormone) look very similar, which is why an ovulation test might react. However, it is absolutely not a reliable diagnostic tool for pregnancy. Always use a proper HCG urine test strip for accurate results.

Honestly, don't believe those random TikTok or Instagram hacks saying you can use ovulation strips. They are meant for two different things entirely. Just get a normal pregnancy kit from the local chemist, it's super cheap and actually works.

I tried using an ovulation test once during my second pregnancy out of curiosity, and while it did show a faint line, it was very stressful trying to interpret it. The real pregnancy test card is the only reliable way. Save yourself the headache and use a Prega News or similar kit first thing in the morning.
