Can amiodarone cause weight gain?

My mother started taking amiodarone for her heart condition recently. She's very conscious about her weight and is worried if this medication could lead to weight gain.

My relative was on amiodarone for heart issues and faced this. This medicine can affect your thyroid gland, which often leads to weight gain and feeling cold or tired. Home remedies won't fix this, so please discuss this with your doctor so they can check your thyroid levels.

I manage my diabetes closely and know that heart medications like amiodarone can sometimes interfere with thyroid function, causing sudden weight gain. You must get your TSH levels checked and consult your cardiologist about this side effect.

Please do not ignore this symptom. I once let sudden weight gain slide thinking it was just a side effect, but it was actually a serious thyroid imbalance caused by my medication. Go to your doctor immediately and get your blood work done.

Yeah, my father had this exact issue while on amiodarone. His weight shot up because the drug slowed down his thyroid (hypothyroidism). His doctor adjusted the meds and gave him thyroid support, so definitely get a checkup done soon.

Amiodarone is a strong heart medicine and can definitely cause fluid retention or thyroid issues that lead to weight gain. Even with a perfect vegetarian diet, you might not see results if the medication is affecting your system. Please let your doctor know about this.
