Can alcohol cause kidney pain?

Sometimes after a night of heavy drinking, I feel a dull ache in my lower back, which makes me worry about my kidneys. Is it possible for alcohol to cause actual kidney pain? I'm wondering if it's just dehydration or something more serious.

Yes, alcohol causes severe dehydration which leads to a dull ache in the kidney area. A simple and practical solution is to drink coconut water or ORS the next morning to hydrate quickly. Also, try keeping a limit on your drinks.

Please don't ignore this pain like I did, thinking it was just a normal hangover. I ended up with a severe kidney infection that took weeks to treat. If the pain is sharp or persistent, go get a doctor's checkup immediately.

I literally had this exact issue last week after a wedding party. The doctor told me the pain was due to spasms from severe dehydration caused by alcohol. Once I drank plenty of fluids and rested, the ache completely vanished in a day.

Oh God, I get so anxious when my lower back aches after drinking, I immediately think of kidney stones. It is usually just dehydration, but the stress makes it feel worse. Keep drinking water and maybe consult a doctor if you can't stop worrying.

Kidney strain from alcohol is quite common due to electrolyte imbalances. Since I manage thyroid issues, I am always cautious about my metabolic health and get regular blood tests done. I highly recommend getting a basic kidney function test if this pain keeps happening.

Alcohol acts as a diuretic, forcing your kidneys to work harder and leading to dehydration-induced pain. Along with avoiding alcohol, make sure you eat water-rich fruits like watermelon and cucumber. Please monitor your diet closely and consult a professional.

I understand how uncomfortable that pain can be. When my husband gets this, I make him drink barley water (jau ka paani) or warm water with lemon, which helps flush out the toxins naturally. Do try this, but see a doctor if the pain is severe.

Having PCOS makes my body highly sensitive to inflammation, and alcohol always triggers lower back discomfort for me. It might be related to your kidneys or just muscle tension. It's best to consult a healthcare professional to be safe.

I panicked so badly the first time I felt that lower back ache after a heavy night of drinking. My doctor reassured me that it's just mild irritation from dehydration and not permanent damage. Just rest and hydrate well, you will be fine.

Beta, alcohol is very dry and heating for your internal organs, which can cause pain in the lower back and kidney area. Drink plenty of fresh coconut water to cool down your system. However, if the pain persists, you must show it to a doctor.

Hey! Yes, alcohol makes your body lose water very fast, which can cause a dull ache near your lower ribs. Try to drink one glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have. It really helps prevent that nasty ache the next day.
