Can alcohol cause diarrhea and vomiting?

I've noticed that after I drink, even a moderate amount, I often experience upset stomach with diarrhea and sometimes even vomiting the next day. Is this a common reaction? Can alcohol cause both diarrhea and vomiting?

It definitely does, especially if you mix different drinks or drink on an empty stomach. Alcohol irritates your entire gastrointestinal tract, speeding up digestion which causes diarrhea, and triggering acid buildup which leads to vomiting. Stick to one type of drink, eat a proper meal first, and hydrate.

This is very common when the stomach gets upset from the heat of the alcohol. Instead of running to the clinic immediately and spending money, just drink electral water or salt-sugar water slowly to prevent dehydration. Keep your food very simple like khichdi or curd rice for a day.

Alcohol is very acidic and disrupts the digestive fire, or 'Jatharagni', in our body, leading to immediate rejection through vomiting or loose motions. To heal your system, give your stomach complete rest, drink warm ginger-infused water, and practice light Vajrasana after meals once you feel better.

When your gut is inflamed from alcohol, your body loses vital electrolytes, making your muscles feel weak. If your doctor allows, taking a very light walk in the fresh air can help stimulate your bowel motility back to normal. But avoid any heavy workouts until your stomach completely settles and you are fully hydrated.

Actually, alcohol increases stomach acid production and delays gastric emptying, which is why you feel like throwing up. It also prevents the large intestine from absorbing water properly, causing diarrhea. Drink plenty of electrolyte fluids, and avoid dairy or spicy food for at least 24 hours until your gut recovers.

Hey, don't worry, this is just your body flushing out the toxins from the alcohol, but you need to be careful about dehydration. Sip on ORS or coconut water every fifteen minutes rather than chugging it all at once. If the vomiting doesn't stop by evening, let's get you checked by a doctor, okay?

I used to get terrible loose motions and vomiting every single time I drank heavy draft beer. I realized my gut simply couldn't tolerate the yeast and high gluten under the influence of alcohol. My tip is to completely stop drinking for a week, take a good probiotic daily to rebuild your gut flora, and stick to light spirits if you drink again.

Beta, alcohol is very harsh on the stomach lining and causes 'pitta' imbalance, leading to vomiting and loose motions. In our times, we would take a spoonful of fennel seeds (saunf) or drink barley water to cool the stomach down. But if you cannot retain any water and feel very dizzy, please go see a doctor immediately.
