Can adhd cause weight gain?

I've noticed I've been gaining a significant amount of weight since my ADHD diagnosis. I'm not sure if it's related to the condition itself or other factors. Can ADHD cause weight gain?

Yes, it definitely can. When you have ADHD, your brain seeks quick dopamine hits, which often leads to impulsive binge eating or constant snacking on junk during work hours. Tracking your meals and keeping healthy snacks at your desk is very important.

Impulsive eating is very common when the mind is restless. Try drinking a warm glass of water or herbal tea whenever you feel the urge to snack out of boredom, but do consult your doctor if your weight gain is rapid or sudden.

Look, with ADHD, you either forget to eat all day or you end up ordering a massive pizza at midnight because your mind wants comfort. It is all about lack of routine. Start meal-prepping on Sundays so you don't eat rubbish during the week.

When the mind is unstable, our eating habits also become irregular, which harms the body's metabolism. Try eating fresh, home-cooked Sattvik meals at the exact same time every day to bring some discipline to your digestion.

I get so anxious about my weight and then I end up stress-eating, which makes it a terrible loop. ADHD makes it so hard to plan exercises or stick to a gym routine. Just take small steps and don't beat yourself up over it.
