Can adderall cause weight gain?

My doctor has suggested Adderall for my focus issues, but I'm worried about gaining weight. I've heard different things about its effect on weight. Can Adderall actually cause weight gain?

Usually people say Adderall causes weight loss, but I feel like I've actually put on weight since starting it. Is anyone else experiencing this or am I just overeating when the medicine wears off in the evening?

I panicked so much when the scale went up after starting Adderall! But my doctor explained it's just the 'rebound effect' where I get super hungry at night after the dose wears off. Once I managed my dinner portions, my weight went back to normal.

Yes, while appetite suppression is common, some people do gain weight due to irregular eating habits or slow metabolism. Try keeping healthy snacks ready for when the medication wears off.

Weight changes on stimulants can mess with your metabolism, which is a major concern if you are managing insulin levels. If you are gaining weight, be very careful not to binge on high-sugar comfort foods when the drug effects fade. Keep a close watch on your diet and consult your specialist.

My teenager actually gained a bit of weight because he wouldn't eat all day at school, and then would binge on heavy food late at night when the Adderall wore off. We had to set strict meal times to make sure he eats balanced food throughout the day.
