Can acid reflux cause weight gain?

Despite having severe acid reflux almost daily, I've actually put on a few kgs in the last few months. I thought stomach issues might make you lose weight. Could acid reflux actually lead to weight gain for some reason?

Honestly, my late-night acidity keeps me awake, and my sleep-deprived brain decides that eating a cheese sandwich at 3 AM is the only cure. No wonder I am gaining weight! If you are also eating to soothe the throat burn, that's probably the culprit.

Actually, my doctor explained that many people with acid reflux end up eating more frequently because food temporarily neutralizes stomach acid and relieves the burning sensation. This 'eating for comfort' leads to excess calorie intake and subsequent weight gain. It's best to consult a doctor to treat the acid issue directly.

When digestion is weak, our metabolism slows down, which can contribute to weight gain. I found that practicing gentle Vajrasana after meals and regular Kapalbhati helped improve my digestion and managed my weight. Please do seek a physician's advice for a complete checkup.

It's usually a cycle where acid reflux makes you eat frequent small meals to coat the stomach, leading to a calorie surplus. Focus on eating high-fiber, non-acidic whole foods and maintain a clean workout routine. If the reflux is severe, getting a doctor's advice is the first step.

Yes, it can indirectly. Many patients find that starchy or dairy foods soothe their chest burn, so they overeat those comfort foods. If you are experiencing sudden weight gain along with reflux, please consult a doctor to check for underlying issues like thyroid or slow metabolism.

Don't stress too much about this. Sometimes we eat extra carbs just to stop that irritating burning feeling in the chest, which adds some weight. Try to focus on soothing your stomach first with the help of a doctor, and the weight will settle down naturally.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai! Jab acidity hoti hai toh hum lagatar kuch na kuch thanda ya meetha khate rehte hain aaram ke liye, jisse weight badh jata hai. Ek baar doctor ko dikha lo taaki acidity control ho sake, hai na?
