Can a uti affect pregnancy?

A friend of mine who is pregnant recently had a UTI, and it got me thinking. I'm also expecting, and I'm a bit worried. Can a UTI really affect a pregnancy or the baby?

Yes, absolutely, a UTI can definitely affect pregnancy and should never be ignored. In our family, ignoring an infection early on led to severe complications and an emergency hospital stay later. Please make sure to see a gynecologist immediately to get safe antibiotics and clear the infection before it causes issues like early labor.

I know how uncomfortable a UTI can be, and during pregnancy, it is even more stressful. While drinking lots of water and coconut water can help soothe the burning, home remedies alone cannot cure a bacterial infection when you are pregnant. Please be practical, get a urine culture done, and take the safe medicines your doctor prescribes.

I totally get it, worrying about an infection when you are carrying a baby is so stressful and overwhelming. Please try not to panic, as UTIs are very common during pregnancy and highly treatable. Just reach out to your doctor today so they can give you a safe, simple course of medicine to keep you both healthy.

People with diabetes are already more prone to UTIs, and during pregnancy, the risk is even higher. An active infection can elevate your stress levels and affect blood sugar control, which is not good for the baby. Please be very careful, monitor your health closely, and consult your doctor for safe treatment.

Don't listen to random people online telling you to just drink cranberry juice or take ayurvedic herbs to cure a UTI during pregnancy. UTIs can quickly spread to the kidneys in pregnant women, which is extremely risky for both mother and child. Verify everything with a qualified gynecologist and take proper medical treatment.
