Can a sonogram show cancer?

My relative recently mentioned that something suspicious was found on their sonogram, which turned out to be cancer. This made me wonder, how effective are sonograms in general at detecting different types of cancer? Can they really show if someone has cancer?

A sonogram can show suspicious lumps or fluid, but it can't 100% tell if it's cancer. It's kind of like looking at a wrapped delivery box – you can guess there is biryani inside, but you won't know for sure until you actually open it up. You will need a biopsy to confirm.

Look, a sonogram can only point out if there is an abnormal mass, cyst, or tumor. It cannot confirm cancer on its own. For a final diagnosis, doctors always do a biopsy or a CT scan, so don't jump to conclusions just based on an ultrasound report.

My aunt had an ultrasound that showed a solid nodule, which got us all super worried. But the doctor explained that a sonogram just shows the shape and size, it doesn't mean it's malignant. Definitely get it checked by a specialist to be absolutely safe.

A sonogram can detect unusual masses or cysts, but a biopsy is always required to confirm if it is cancer.

A sonogram is a great non-invasive screening tool to detect abnormal tissues or tumors. It helps flag anomalies that require further investigation, but according to medical guidelines, a tissue biopsy is always needed for a definitive cancer diagnosis. Talk to your doctor to map out the next steps.

An ultrasound is great for seeing things, but it's not a psychic! It can point out a suspicious lump and say 'hey, look here,' but only a biopsy can confirm if it is actually cancer. Don't start writing your will just yet, get a doctor's opinion first.
