Can a pregnancy test be positive at one week?

My period is due in about a week, but I'm feeling some early symptoms and took a home pregnancy test today. It showed a faint positive line, which surprised me. Can a test actually show positive so early, just a week after conception, or should I retest later?

At just one week after conception, it is highly unlikely to get a positive home urine test because the hCG hormone levels are still very low. A blood test is much more accurate at an early stage, but consulting a doctor is your best course of action.

Dekho, one week is too early for home strip tests to show anything clearly. Wait till you actually miss your period, then test again first thing in the morning. If you are in a hurry, just go to a lab and do a blood test.

No, home urine kits won't detect it at one week because hCG levels don't build up that fast. If you're counting from conception, you need to wait at least 10 to 14 days, or just get a beta-hCG blood test done at a diagnostic clinic.

I totally get it, the suspense is so hard to handle and you just want to know right now. But at one week, the hormone levels are usually too low to trigger a positive on a home test. Try to give it a little more time and test again.

I completely understand how stressful and anxious the waiting period can make you feel, I have been there. But honestly, one week is usually too early for a urine test to detect pregnancy. Try to stay calm and wait a few more days before testing again.
