Can a massage trigger a migraine?

I get migraines quite often, and I'm always careful about what might trigger them. I'm considering getting a head and neck massage for stress relief, but I'm worried it might actually trigger a migraine attack. Is that possible?

Yes, a massage can absolutely trigger a migraine if it is too hard, especially around the neck and shoulders. Instead of heavy massage, trying simple cold packs on your forehead works much better to soothe the pain.

I completely understand how frustrating this is. I once went for a relaxing massage hoping to relieve my stress, and ended up with a horrific migraine that ruined my entire week. It is incredibly demoralizing.

Yes, deep tissue massage can sometimes stimulate certain nerves and trigger a headache. My mother suggests using light eucalyptus oil, but it is always best to consult a neurologist if attacks are frequent.

I can only speak from my personal experience, but yes, deep neck massages always trigger a migraine for me. I had to strictly tell my barber to stop doing those rough shoulder rubs after haircuts.

Bro yes, this actually happened to me during exams. I got a hard head massage to de-stress and it literally triggered a massive migraine that lasted two days. Never doing that again!

Haan babu, jyada jor se tel malish karne se sir dukhne lagta hai aur adhakapari (migraine) ho sakti hai. Aap halka hath se malish karwaye, fayda karega.

Yes, it can. I always get super anxious before any spa visit because I fear a migraine trigger from the strong scented oils or neck pressure. Try asking the therapist to be extremely gentle next time.

Yes, it can be a trigger. Since hormonal fluctuations from thyroid can also make you more sensitive to migraines, make sure you get your regular tests done and discuss these triggers with your doctor.

Yes, intense physical pressure on the neck nerves can trigger these attacks. My daughter suffers from bad migraines, so we are always very careful about avoiding heavy head massages or sudden pressure.

Yes, neck muscle manipulation can sometimes set off a migraine pathway. I get hormonal headaches due to my PCOS and have to be very careful with any triggers, so I usually avoid intense neck massages.
