Can a hyperactive thyroid cause weight gain?

Everyone says an overactive thyroid usually leads to weight loss, but I've been gaining weight steadily for the past few months. My recent reports show my thyroid is a bit hyperactive. Can this actually be the reason for my weight gain, or is it something else I should look into?

Normally, a hyperactive thyroid speeds up metabolism and causes weight loss, but in some rare cases, it can increase your appetite so much that you end up eating more and gaining weight. While drinking coriander seed water and eating home-cooked meals is great for general health, you must see a doctor to get your TSH levels checked and get proper medication.

Usually, hyperthyroidism causes weight loss because your metabolic rate is through the roof, but some people do experience weight gain due to an extreme spike in hunger. Regular walks and light exercise can help keep your metabolism balanced and manage stress. Just make sure to get your doctor's approval before starting any intense workout routine while your thyroid is hyperactive.

Hey, don't stress too much! Usually, a hyperactive thyroid makes you lose weight, but sometimes it makes you so hungry that you end up overeating, which can actually lead to weight gain. It’s a bit confusing, I know, but a simple thyroid blood test will clarify everything. Just visit your doctor and they will help you sort it out!

Don't trust random internet claims that say you can cure thyroid issues with herbal detoxes or diets. While hyperthyroidism usually causes weight loss, weight gain can still happen in some cases due to increased appetite. The only way to know what's going on with your body is to get a proper thyroid panel test and consult an endocrinologist.

A hyperactive thyroid typically puts your body in a high-calorie-burning state, leading to weight loss. But if your appetite goes into overdrive, you might consume more calories than you burn, which results in weight gain. Focus on a balanced diet with clean proteins and talk to your doctor to get your hormone levels stabilized.

I read up on this extensively when my sister was diagnosed with Graves' disease. My doctor explained that while weight loss is the classic symptom of hyperthyroidism, some patients actually gain weight because the condition drastically increases their appetite, or because the anti-thyroid medications they start slow down their metabolism too quickly. It's a complex hormonal balance, so regular blood tests are crucial.
