Are you supposed to brush your teeth after vomiting?

Last night I had some food poisoning and vomited a few times, it was quite unpleasant. My wife told me not to brush my teeth immediately, but rather rinse my mouth. Is it actually bad for your teeth to brush right after vomiting?

I totally get it, that awful taste makes you want to brush immediately! But actually, brushing right away can scrub the stomach acid into your teeth and damage the enamel. Just rinse with plain water or some mouthwash first and wait about 30 minutes before brushing.

Yes, wait at least 30 minutes. Rinsing with a little baking soda mixed in water helps neutralize the acid quickly.

Dude, don't brush immediately. The acid softens your teeth enamel, so brushing right after actually ruins them. Just rinse your mouth with water really well and wait for like half an hour.

Oh man, vomiting is the absolute worst because it ruins all the taste buds for the day! But seriously, don't brush immediately. Just rinse with water and maybe chew on some mint or have a sip of cold water after some time to clear the bad aftertaste.

I ignored severe vomiting once thinking it was just acidity, and ended up severely dehydrated. Please get checked by a doctor if this continues. And yes, as a rule, just rinse with water first; don't brush immediately.

If you are vomiting frequently, please consult a doctor to find the root cause, as dehydration can set in quickly. Regarding your teeth, only rinse with water for now because brushing immediately after acid exposure can weaken your teeth over time.

Be kind to your body right now, it goes through a lot during vomiting. Rinse your mouth gently with warm water to clear the stomach acids, and let your body calm down. Take a few deep breaths and brush only after some time has passed.

Hey, take a deep breath. Don't rush to brush your teeth right now; the stomach acid makes your enamel very sensitive. Just rinse your mouth thoroughly with water for now, sit down, and brush after 30-40 minutes.

Definitely not. Brushing immediately after throwing up is a big mistake because the acid weakens the enamel, and you'll literally scrub it off. Rinse with water or a fluoride mouthwash and wait 30 minutes before picking up the toothbrush.

When your stomach is upset, your teeth are highly exposed to harsh acids. Instead of brushing, rinse with warm water. You can drink a small cup of plain ginger water after half an hour to settle your stomach before you brush.

I used to get nauseous a lot because of my medication. I was advised not to brush immediately to protect the tooth enamel. Rinse well with water and wait for 30 minutes; it's a small precaution but really helps protect your teeth.
