Are yeast infections common in pregnancy?

My sister-in-law told me that she got yeast infections quite often when she was pregnant. I am expecting my first baby next year, and I'm wondering if this is something many women deal with during pregnancy, or if it's just her experience.

My wife faced this during both her pregnancies years ago. Back then, our family doctor told us it's just due to body changes and nothing to worry about. Just follow your doctor's advice and eat clean, simple food.

Haan, it is very common in women during this time, so please do not worry. Just tell your doctor about the itching and they will give you a very safe ointment. Don't feel shy to ask them.

Yes, they are very common. Staying active with light walks helps with overall immunity, but if you sweat during workouts, make sure to change into dry clothes immediately to prevent the yeast from growing.

I am in my first pregnancy and experiencing some itching, but I was too shy to ask anyone. Is it safe to use normal over-the-counter intimate washes, or should I wait to ask my gynecologist first?

Hey, don't stress too much about this! It happens to almost every second pregnant woman because of all the hormonal shifts. Just wear breathable cotton clothes and let your doctor know so they can fix it quickly.

From what I've read, the high level of glycogen in the vaginal area during pregnancy acts as food for yeast, which is why it thrives. It's a purely biological reaction to hormones, so it is highly common.

I totally get it, it can feel so annoying and uncomfortable to deal with this when you are already feeling tired. Please don't worry, it is a very standard issue during pregnancy and your doctor will clear it up easily.

Actually, it's super common, yaar. My sister had it too when she was expecting. The hormones go completely crazy during this time, which causes it. Just a quick visit to the gynae will solve it.
