Are weighted sleep sacks safe?

My baby is really struggling to sleep through the night, and a friend suggested I try a weighted sleep sack. I'm a bit worried about putting something heavy on my infant though. Are these actually safe for babies?

Haha, I sometimes wish they made giant ones for adults so I could finally get some peace! But for actual babies, they are a big no-no according to safety guidelines. Better to stick to normal cotton swaddles and accept the sleepless nights as our fate.

I totally get it, when you are exhausted and just want your baby to sleep, these weighted options sound like a lifesaver. But pediatricians actually warn against them because the weight can press on their tiny chests and restrict breathing. Please be very careful with this.

Actually, the latest pediatric safety guidelines strongly advise against weighted sleep sacks or swaddles. They can make it hard for a baby to roll over or breathe easily if they turn onto their stomach. It's safer to use regular, lightweight sleeping bags.

As a mom who hasn't slept properly in eight months, I looked into this out of pure desperation. But then I read that medical boards advise against weighted sacks because of safe sleep risks. Back to pacing around the room at 3 AM for me, I guess!

For babies, natural methods are always best. A light massage with lukewarm mustard or coconut oil before sleep can help calm them down naturally. If your child has continuous sleep issues or breathing discomfort, please consult a proper pediatrician immediately.

My older sister was looking at these for her newborn and our family doctor straight up told her to avoid them. Apparently, they are not safe for small infants. Normal blankets are way safer and cheaper too.
