Are there any antidepressants that don't cause weight gain?

My doctor suggested I might need to start on antidepressants, but I'm really worried about gaining weight. I've struggled with my weight before, and I don't want to make things worse. Are there any antidepressants that are known not to cause weight gain?

Yes, some medications have a lower chance of causing weight gain, but everyone's body reacts differently. Along with whatever your doctor prescribes, doing daily Pranayama and slow stretching can really help calm your nervous system and keep your metabolism balanced. Take it one day at a time.

Honestly, same, I was so worried about weight gain when my doctor suggested meds for my anxiety. Actually, some options like Bupropion are known to be weight-neutral or even cause slight weight loss, unlike others. Definitely talk to your psychiatrist and tell them your concerns, they will adjust the prescription.

From what I see in my practice, SSRIs like paroxetine tend to cause more weight gain, while drugs like bupropion or fluoxetine are generally more weight-neutral for many patients. However, please don't self-medicate or change doses based on this. Have an open chat with your doctor so they can choose the right molecule for you.

Haha, trying to fight depression while also fighting the urge to eat a whole tub of ice cream is a real struggle! But yes, there are certain meds that don't make you pile on the kilos. Just ask your doc to give you the 'slim' version of the prescription!

I totally understand your concern, I had the exact same fear when I started my therapy journey. My doctor was really sweet and prescribed me something that didn't affect my appetite or weight at all. Just be open with your therapist about your fears, they hear this all the time and will help you out!

Agree with others, some medicines don't cause weight issues. Just explain your concerns to your doctor clearly before they write the prescription.
