Are hot flashes normal during pregnancy?

Being in my second trimester, sometimes I get these intense hot flashes out of nowhere. Is this normal during pregnancy, or should I mention it to my doctor at my next appointment?

I literally panicked during my first trimester because I would suddenly start sweating in an AC room. I thought something was terribly wrong with the baby. My doctor reassured me that it is completely normal due to increased blood flow and hormones, so don't worry.

Hey dear, don't stress too much about this! Your body is literally working double-time to grow a tiny human, so feeling like a walking heater is totally expected. Just wear loose cotton clothes and keep a bottle of cold water with you always.

My wife was a human radiator during her pregnancy; I didn't even need a blanket in winter! It is very common, so just let your partner know they might need to adjust to your personal weather station for a few months.

Drinking coconut water daily or having some soaked fennel seeds can help cool your body down naturally. But remember, if your hot flashes are accompanied by a high fever, severe headaches, or dizziness, please do not ignore it and see your doctor immediately.

Having PCOS made my hormone levels quite unpredictable during my pregnancy, so I had bad hot flashes too. While it is very common, I always prefer to write down when they happen and mention it to my gynecologist during regular checkups just to be safe.

I am currently in my eighth week and started experiencing these sudden warm waves yesterday. Is it okay to use a cold compress on my neck, or could that harm the baby? I am a bit hesitant to try anything without asking.

While vasomotor symptoms are indeed common due to gestational endocrine shifts, do not try random herbal remedies recommended online to control them, as some can interfere with your pregnancy. Discuss this with your obstetrician, who can safely evaluate your thyroid and hormone levels.

Yes, nearly 30% of pregnant women experience hot flashes. It happens because your estrogen levels fluctuate and your metabolism increases. Just make sure you are staying well-hydrated and avoid spicy or extremely hot meals, especially in the evenings.
