Am i a candidate for weight loss surgery?

I've been struggling with my weight for years, especially after my second pregnancy. My family doctor mentioned bariatric surgery as an option, but I'm not sure if it's right for me. I wanted to understand the general criteria and if someone with my health profile would even be considered.

Honestly, I used to think about this every day because losing weight felt impossible on my own. Usually they check your BMI first, especially if you have issues like thyroid or joint pain. It is a big step, so maybe start by talking to a bariatric specialist to see where you stand.

I just had my sleeve gastrectomy four months back and trust me, it changed my life. They generally look at a BMI over 40, or over 35 if you have diabetes or high BP. The tests take some time, so definitely consult a surgeon who can guide you through the actual medical criteria.

Look, surgery is not a shortcut or an easy way out, okay? You have to qualify based on your health reports, and the doctor will check if diet changes failed first. Get a proper checkup done instead of guessing online.

I love my butter chicken too much to think about this, but I know people who went for it! They told me your stomach capacity gets super small afterward, so you really have to be ready to change how you eat. It is mostly for severe obesity where diet alone isn't helping anymore.

Beta, these surgeries are very big decisions for the body. If your weight is causing a lot of trouble to your knees and heart, then only doctors suggest this. Please go to a good hospital in the city and show them your reports once.

It takes so much emotional strength to even ask this question because society makes us feel so guilty about our weight. Please know you are not alone in this struggle. Talk to a compassionate doctor who understands both the physical and emotional side of this journey.

I’m also thinking about this lately but I'm honestly terrified of the anesthesia and recovery. Did anyone else feel really scared before getting evaluated? I want to know how the doctors actually decide if we are fit for it.

I completely understand how overwhelming it feels to even think about this, and it is totally normal to feel nervous. Usually, doctors evaluate your physical and mental health before clearing you. Take a deep breath and just book an initial consultation to clear your mind.

I kept delaying my weight-related health issues for years until my sugar levels went completely out of control. Don't wait like I did until things get critical. Go get your blood work done and meet a professional to see if you actually need surgical help.

Man, typing this at 3 AM because my weight makes me snore and keeps me awake all night. From what I read, if you are struggling with severe health issues because of weight, you might be a candidate. Definitely check with a doc while I try to find some sleep!

Please be very careful with this. I had a lot of issues with acid reflux and nutrition absorption after my procedure, and it was quite tough to manage. You must consult a highly experienced surgeon to understand all the risks and side effects before deciding.

Yaar, actually it depends on your BMI and if you have other health issues like sleep apnea. My cousin went for a consultation in Pune and the doc told him there is a whole checklist to tick off first. It’s not just about wanting to lose weight, you know?
