Would having a hysterectomy help pcos?

I've been struggling with PCOS for years now, and the symptoms are getting really difficult to manage. Someone suggested that a hysterectomy could potentially help with PCOS, but I'm not sure if that's true or advisable.

Actually, a hysterectomy means removing the uterus, and PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects your ovaries. So, a hysterectomy alone won't cure PCOS or its symptoms like hormonal imbalance or insulin resistance. Your ovaries would still be there unless they are also removed (oophorectomy), which is a different procedure and has its own implications.

It's really understandable to look for solutions when dealing with PCOS, it can be so frustrating. But a hysterectomy only removes the uterus, which means no more periods or pregnancies. It doesn't really address the underlying hormonal issues of PCOS. Talk to your doc, there are other ways to manage it.

Arre, hysterectomy toh uterus nikaal dete hain na? PCOS toh ovaries se related zyada hota hai. So, sirf uterus nikaalne se PCOS ke saare problems solve nahi honge. Hormonal issues toh rahenge hi. Better hai ki doc se acchi tarah discuss karo options.

My gynaecologist explained that PCOS is primarily an endocrine disorder involving hormonal imbalances and insulin resistance, mainly originating from the ovaries and adrenal glands. A hysterectomy only removes the uterus, so it wouldn't resolve the core symptoms of PCOS like hirsutism, acne, or metabolic issues. Ovaries would need to be removed as well, and even then, some PCOS symptoms might persist due to hormonal fluctuations from other glands. It's generally not a treatment for PCOS itself.

While a hysterectomy stops periods, it doesn't really fix the hormonal imbalance that is PCOS. The ovaries are still there causing issues. Focus on managing PCOS with lifestyle changes, like healthy eating and regular exercise, which my doctor said is super important. Always check with your doctor for the best management plan.
