Will getting dentures stop gum disease?

My gums have been bothering me for a while, and the dentist said I have gum disease. I'm considering getting dentures eventually. Will getting dentures stop gum disease from progressing, or is it a separate issue?

Nahi, bhai. Dentures don't cure gum disease. Gum disease is about infection and inflammation of your gums, the tissue holding your teeth. If you get dentures, it means you don't have natural teeth there, so no gums to get infected in *that* spot. But it won't magically cure disease in other parts of your mouth or stop it from developing if you don't practice good hygiene. See a dentist for gum disease first.

Ho na, it's a good question. Dentures replace your teeth, so the gums where your original teeth were won't get gum disease. But if you have gum disease in other areas of your mouth with natural teeth, or if your oral hygiene isn't good, it can still be a problem. So, not a cure for gum disease itself, more like avoiding the problem in specific spots, haan na?

Man, if only getting dentures was a magic wand for all dental problems, I'd probably be sleeping better right now instead of thinking about flossing! But no, dentures replace teeth, they don't cure gum disease. You gotta treat the disease first, otherwise, what's the point? And imagine having gum disease *under* your dentures? Nightmare fuel!

Dentures are for missing teeth, not to cure gum disease. Need to treat the gums first.

Beta, getting dentures means your natural teeth are gone. So, yes, the gums under those dentures won't get gum disease like before. But if you have natural teeth left in other parts of your mouth, or if you don't clean your mouth well, gum disease can still come. It's not a 'cure' for the disease everywhere, just a solution for missing teeth. You must still take good care of your mouth.

In a holistic sense, dental health is part of overall well-being. Getting dentures means the diseased teeth are removed. While those specific areas are no longer prone to gum disease, it doesn't mean the 'tendency' for gum disease is gone from your body, or that your other gums are safe. Maintaining good oral hygiene and inner balance through practices like pranayama still helps keep the whole body healthy.
