Why should you not sleep on your right side?

My wife keeps telling me to sleep on my left side, saying it's better for digestion. I usually sleep on my right. Is there any health reason why one shouldn't sleep on the right side?

It's often advised to avoid sleeping on your right side for better digestion and heart health.

Wait, really? There's a 'right' side and a 'wrong' side to sleep on? As if getting sleep isn't hard enough, now I have to worry about my orientation! Honestly, I just fall asleep wherever my body gives up. But I guess it's usually about digestion or something, right? Or maybe my bed just secretly prefers my left side, haha.

This is something I struggled with emotionally for a while, constantly worrying if I was sleeping 'right.' It's often talked about for digestion and heart health, as your stomach and spleen are on the left, so sleeping on that side might aid gravity for digestion. But really, finding a comfortable position that gives you restful sleep is probably most important. Don't let it stress you too much.

It's true, there are theories that sleeping on your left side is better for digestion and even for heart health, as it aligns better with your internal organs. I've tried many things for my acidity, and consciously trying to sleep on my left side did seem to help a bit. But sometimes, you just need to sleep in whatever position is comfortable, especially if you're struggling to fall asleep. Listen to your body, but if you have specific issues like reflux, definitely try the left side.

Oh, I recently learned this too! My physio told me that for better digestion and circulation, especially if you have acid reflux, sleeping on your left side is generally better. It's because of the anatomy of our internal organs, mainly stomach. Sleeping on the right can sometimes worsen acid reflux. It made a noticeable difference for my own acidity issues once I started trying to sleep mostly on my left.
