Why nausea and vomiting in heart attack?

My neighbour had a heart attack recently, and he mentioned he felt a lot of nausea and even vomited before it happened. I always thought chest pain was the main symptom, so I'm curious why someone would experience nausea and vomiting during a heart attack.

Yes, this is very important to know. Many people, especially women, might feel nausea or vomit instead of typical chest pain during a heart attack. In our days, we only thought of chest pain, but now doctors say to watch for these too. Don't ignore any unusual symptoms, beta.

Yaar, actually it's a bit confusing, na? Heart attack means chest pain, but sometimes it's like a stomach issue only. It happens because when the heart is in distress, it can trigger nerves that are connected to the stomach. So your brain gets confused signals. Scary stuff, so always get it checked!

Hey! It's super important you asked this because it's a less common symptom, especially for women. When your heart is struggling, it can mess with your nervous system, leading to signals that upset your stomach. It's your body's way of saying something serious is up. Don't stress too much, but definitely take it seriously if it happens!

This is a very important question. Sometimes when the heart is having a problem, it affects other parts of the body too, through the nerves. So the brain thinks something is wrong with the stomach. My doctor told my uncle to look out for such 'atypical' symptoms. Always consult the doctor immediately for such things, okay?

While I always advocate for a healthy, balanced diet to prevent heart issues, it's crucial to understand that not all heart attack symptoms are typical. Nausea and vomiting are often dismissed as simple indigestion. Even with a clean diet, if these symptoms appear along with other warning signs, it means something serious is happening, and medical attention is urgent.

Even for someone fit, these symptoms are a red flag. Nausea and vomiting can occur because when the heart isn't getting enough blood, it can activate nerves that connect to the digestive system, causing these symptoms. It's a critical sign, so if you experience it, don't try to 'walk it off.' Seek emergency medical help immediately.

My cardiologist once explained that during a heart attack, particularly one affecting the lower part of the heart (inferior wall MI), the vagus nerve can be stimulated. This nerve is also connected to the digestive system, leading to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort. It's a critical atypical symptom, especially common in women, that needs immediate medical attention.

This is exactly what happened to my uncle! He thought it was just a bad case of indigestion and kept taking antacids. But the nausea and sweating didn't stop. Luckily, my aunt forced him to the hospital. Turns out it was a heart attack. Please, if you feel this, especially with other symptoms like sweating or breathlessness, go to the emergency immediately!
