Why is mental health a stigma?

I tried talking about feeling down with some of my relatives, and they just told me to pray or that it's all in my head. It made me feel worse. Why is mental health still such a stigma in our society?

I think it's because people don't understand it, just like how some people judge others for craving comfort food after a long day! It's an invisible struggle, and we're taught to only show our 'best' selves, which is just not realistic.

The stigma comes from a lack of education and historical misconceptions. People often associate it with weakness or instability. It's crucial to get information from credible sources and always consult a doctor, not just internet forums, if you or someone you know is struggling.

It's so stigmatized because we don't talk about it openly. I faced complications because I was too scared to seek help initially. Please, if you feel something is off, don't delay, go see a doctor immediately. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Maybe because it's not a broken bone you can put a cast on, people think you're just 'thinking too much'! Like, if my brain decided to run a marathon instead of chill, I'd still be tired, right? 😉 It's real, folks!

In our society, we are often taught to keep our struggles to ourselves. My mother always said, 'Be brave, my son.' But mental health is a health issue, not a character flaw. For any persistent feelings, it is wise to consult a medical professional, they can guide you properly.

Many people don't realize that mental health can be affected by physical conditions, like thyroid imbalances. This lack of understanding often leads to judgment instead of empathy. Regular health checks, including thyroid, are important for overall well-being, and always discuss symptoms with your doctor.
