Why is eczema so itchy?

I've had eczema since childhood, and sometimes the itching is just unbearable, like it drives me crazy. It makes it hard to focus on anything. Why is eczema so incredibly itchy?

Eczema is very troubling, I have seen it in my grandchildren. The skin becomes very dry and rough, and then when anything touches it, it becomes irritated very easily. My mother used to say, put a little pure coconut oil, very gently, to soothe it. But if it's very bad, doctor ka consultation zaruri hai, beta.

Oh my god, I always wondered this! Like, it's not just a little itch, it's that deep, can't-stop-scratching kind of itch. I heard it's something about the skin barrier being weak, so irritants get in easily and trigger the immune system. So annoying for anyone who has it.

Yaar, actually it's like a chain reaction. The skin barrier is kinda broken, so dust, allergens, all that stuff gets in easily. Then your body overreacts, creates inflammation, and boom, super itchy. It's a nightmare for people who have it, my friend struggles a lot.

The itchiness with eczema is really tough, I understand. It happens because the skin's protective barrier isn't working properly. This lets irritants and allergens get in, triggering an inflammatory response that causes that intense, maddening itch. It's not just a surface thing, it's deep-seated inflammation.

It's largely due to a compromised skin barrier function. When the skin barrier is weak, it can't hold moisture effectively and is more permeable to allergens and irritants. These irritants then trigger an immune response, causing inflammation and the intense itch. It's a vicious cycle of itch-scratch-itch that damages the skin further.

I know how frustrating persistent skin issues can be, like with my thyroid that needed constant management. Eczema is so itchy because your skin's natural barrier is damaged, letting allergens and irritants get through and cause inflammation. It's a cycle. If it's severe, please ensure you're getting regular check-ups with a dermatologist, just like we do for thyroid, to manage it effectively.
