Why is dandruff worse in winter?

Every winter, my dandruff gets so much worse, it's really annoying. I try different shampoos, but nothing completely fixes it. Why is dandruff worse in winter specifically?

I used to get so stressed about any health issue, and dandruff making hair fall was a big one for me. It's totally normal to feel concerned. Winter air is super dry, right? So it just dries out your scalp more, and that can make dandruff much worse. Don't worry, many people face this.

My dermatologist at Apollo Hospital told me that the cold, dry air in winter strips the moisture from your scalp, making it flaky and irritated. Hot showers also contribute by drying it out further. She suggested using a mild, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and not washing hair too frequently. Best to ask your own doc specifically.

Ugh, winter and dandruff are my personal enemies. As if not getting enough sleep isn't enough, then my scalp decides to revolt. I think it's the dry air, and maybe all the extra chai I'm drinking to stay warm? Anyway, my head feels like a snow globe sometimes.

Haan, winter mein dandruff bohot zyada ho jaata hai. My wife says it's because the air gets really dry, and then we take hot water showers which also dry the scalp. We use a good anti-dandruff shampoo that works for us, and try to oil hair once a week. Simple solutions sometimes work best.

It's all about hydration, inside and out. In winter, not only is the air dry, but we often drink less water. That affects skin and scalp health. Make sure you're staying hydrated and maybe consider a humidifier at home. Diet also plays a role in skin health, so good nutrition helps everything.
