Why does the thyroid stop working?

My aunt was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and her doctor explained that her thyroid just stopped working properly. What are the common reasons or mechanisms behind the thyroid gland stopping its normal function?

My daughter has hypothyroidism, and the doctors explained it's often an autoimmune issue, like Hashimoto's. The body mistakenly attacks its own thyroid gland, causing it to stop producing enough hormones. Sometimes it's genetics, or even certain medications. It needs careful management.

Thyroid issues are becoming so common, haan. Often it's an autoimmune thing or sometimes an iodine deficiency. Getting tested is important, and regular blood tests for TSH, T3, T4 can add up. But it's worth it for correct diagnosis and medication, which once started, is usually lifelong. Plan your expenses for these regular checks.

From what I've heard, it's usually because your body's immune system kinda attacks your own thyroid by mistake, like Hashimoto's. Or sometimes you just don't get enough iodine, which the thyroid needs to work. It's kinda annoying how important this small gland is, right? My friend has it.

I'm just learning about thyroid issues. So, it can stop working because of our own body attacking it? That sounds very complicated. Is there anything specific one can do to prevent it from happening, or is it mostly genetic?

Don't fall for all those online 'natural cures' for thyroid. It's a gland with specific functions. It stops working due to autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto's, iodine deficiency, or sometimes even medical treatments. These are serious conditions requiring proper diagnosis and medication from a real doctor. Verify everything.

I can't tell you the medical reasons why it stops working, as I'm not a doctor. But I know a few people who have thyroid issues, and it often seems to be related to either their immune system or sometimes a deficiency. They all take medicine daily. You should definitely see a doctor.
