Why does someone moan in their sleep?

My wife sometimes makes strange moaning sounds in her sleep, and it wakes me up. She doesn't remember anything in the morning. Is it normal for someone to moan while sleeping, or could it be a sign of something else?

Haan, sometimes people do that na! It's usually harmless, just a form of sleep talking called catathrenia. It happens during sleep, mostly during REM, and is often linked to breathing patterns or maybe even dreams. Nothing to worry about usually, unless it's disturbing their sleep or someone else's.

My son used to do this quite a bit when he was younger, it sounded like little groans! The doctor said it's called catathrenia and it's quite normal, especially in kids. It's usually associated with breathing during sleep and isn't a sign of pain or distress. They eventually outgrow it in most cases.

Ho na, sometimes people make sounds while sleeping. It's often just a sleep disorder called catathrenia, jismein breathing patterns thoda loud ho jaate hain. Doesn't mean they are in pain or something. If it's bothering them or someone else, maybe a sleep specialist can advise, haan na.

In the deep state of sleep, sometimes the body's breath can become audible in various ways, including groans. It is often a natural part of the breathing process during certain sleep stages, not necessarily a sign of discomfort. A peaceful mind and relaxed breath can lead to quieter sleep, but it is often just a natural sound.

My roommate in college used to do this! We used to tease him about it. He never remembered anything. It just sounded like he was having a very intense dream or something. He didn't seem to be in pain or anything, just made those noises. It was just a weird sleep thing for him.
