Why do we sleep with blankets?

It's getting colder these days and I always pull my blanket up before sleeping. My friend asked me the other day why we even sleep with blankets, even when it's not that cold. Is there a scientific reason besides just warmth?

Sleeping with blankets helps regulate body temperature, providing warmth and comfort. It also offers a sense of security and can psychologically aid in falling asleep. While generally harmless, ensure your blanket isn't too heavy or hot to avoid discomfort, and for any specific sleep issues, a doctor's advice is always best.

Blankets are practical, especially in Indian weather fluctuations. You need something to keep warm when it gets chilly at night, even if the fan is on. No need to spend on fancy gadgets, a simple blanket does the job of regulating your body temp and making you feel secure while you sleep. It's an economical solution.

My Oura Ring tracks my body temperature during sleep, and it actually shows how much it dips. Blankets are key to maintaining optimal sleep temperature. Plus, the weight can have a calming effect, like a mild weighted blanket, which can improve sleep scores. It's about thermal regulation and comfort.

Our elders always say a blanket gives a comforting feeling, like a mother's hug. Physiologically, our body temperature drops slightly during sleep, so a blanket helps keep us warm. It's a natural way to feel safe and cozy. If you're ever too hot or cold, it might affect your sleep, so adjust accordingly.
