Why do teenagers sleep so much?

My mom always says I sleep too much, especially on weekends. But I genuinely feel tired! Do teenagers actually need more sleep than adults, or is it just me?

Teenagers sleep a lot because their bodies are growing fast, and their brains are changing so much. They need 8-10 hours, but with school, homework, and phones, they often don't get enough during the week. So they catch up on weekends. Simple logic, yaar.

Good sleep is crucial at every age, and especially for teenagers who are undergoing so many changes. Their bodies need that extra sleep for growth and development. Plus, if they are stressed with exams or other pressures, that also makes them feel more tired. As parents, we should ensure they get quality rest, same way I monitor my BP and diet.

Haha, if they're not eating, they're sleeping, right? Their bodies are burning so much energy growing up that they need tons of rest. Plus, all that studying and maybe a bit too much junk food also makes them feel sleepy. A good nap is sometimes better than a chocolate craving!

I used to feel so guilty for sleeping in so much when I was a teenager, thinking I was just lazy. But actually, our bodies need that much sleep during puberty. There's so much physical and mental development happening. It's totally normal, and it's okay to let them get the rest they need.

From a biological standpoint, teenagers have a delayed sleep phase, meaning their natural sleep-wake cycle shifts later. They still need a good 8-10 hours of sleep, but because of school starting early, they often get sleep deprived during the week. So, they try to compensate by sleeping extra on weekends. It's not laziness, it's biology.

It is very normal for young people to need a lot of sleep. My mother used to say 'growth happens when you sleep'. Their bodies and brains are changing so much, and this requires immense energy. They may feel very tired from all the school work and growing. We should allow them to rest and consult a doctor if there are any other concerns.
