Why do people sleep walk?

My younger brother sometimes walks around in his sleep, and it can be a bit scary if you don't know he does it. He never remembers it in the morning. Why do people sleepwalk, and is it dangerous?

It's quite interesting, my grandmother used to say people sleepwalk when their mind is very disturbed or they are very tired. It's like the body is moving but the mind is still asleep. For small kids, it's often normal and they outgrow it. But if an adult does it often, or it's dangerous, it's better to show a doctor.

Sleepwalking, or somnambulism, usually happens during deep non-REM sleep stages. It's often triggered by factors like sleep deprivation, stress, certain medications, or even fever in children. The person isn't fully awake or aware, which is why it's important to guide them safely back to bed rather than waking them abruptly.

My cousin used to sleepwalk when we were kids. He'd just get up, walk around, sometimes talk nonsense, and then go back to bed. He never remembered anything. It was always after a day when he was super tired or stressed from exams. He just grew out of it eventually.

Honestly, it's kinda creepy but don't stress too much about it unless it's happening all the time. It's usually when someone is in a super deep sleep but their brain kinda gets mixed up and tells their body to move. Happens more often with kids, I think. Just make sure the house is safe if someone does it!

Sleepwalking often suggests a disharmony between the mind and body during the deepest rest. When the conscious mind is deeply asleep but the physical body is agitated. Practicing gentle pranayama and meditation before sleep can help calm the system and bring greater coherence, perhaps reducing such episodes. It helps to settle the restless energies.

Ah, the midnight stroll! Probably just trying to find that remote control they lost during the day, even in their sleep. Or maybe they're trying to sneak into the kitchen for a snack without telling anyone. Jokes aside, it's a deep sleep thing, can be a bit alarming for others, but the person rarely remembers.
