Why do people moan in their sleep?

My wife sometimes complains that I moan in my sleep. I don't remember doing it at all! It makes me wonder if it's normal, and why people moan while they are asleep.

Sleep moaning, or catathrenia, is a type of sleep-related breathing disorder where people make groaning sounds, usually while exhaling. It's distinct from snoring. It doesn't typically indicate pain, but if it's impacting sleep quality for the person or their partner, a sleep study or consultation with a doctor could be helpful to rule out other issues.

Beta, sometimes in deep sleep, people make different sounds, like moaning. It's not always because of bad dreams or pain. Our bodies do strange things when we are resting completely. If it happens very often, then maybe see a doctor to be sure.

Sleep moaning, or catathrenia, is an interesting sleep phenomenon. While fitness trackers might not pinpoint this specifically, they can show overall disturbed sleep patterns. If it's consistent, a sleep study can diagnose it. Sometimes stress management or adjusting sleep position can help, but always best to get a professional opinion if it's concerning.

If it's just occasional, it might be nothing. But if someone is moaning loudly and frequently in their sleep, it could be catathrenia or even a sign of sleep apnea. I ignored my heavy snoring for years and it led to other health issues. Don't take sleep disturbances lightly, please get it checked out by a specialist.
