Why do newborns smile in their sleep?

My daughter is just a few weeks old, and we often see her giving little smiles in her sleep. It's absolutely heartwarming, but we're curious if there's a reason behind it. Why do newborns smile like that when they're sleeping?

Ho na, it's just too adorable to see them smile like that! Mostly, it's a reflex, just some muscle movements in their sleep, especially during REM. Not really conscious dreaming yet. But it's so sweet to watch.

Those sleepy smiles are so precious. It's a reflex, a normal part of their early development. Just enjoy these sweet moments.

Honestly, at this point, I'd take any smile, even a sleepy reflex one! Newborns are so unpredictable. They're probably just dreaming of more milk or maybe 5 more minutes of sleep, which I also dream of daily.

Those little smiles are usually reflex movements, not actual happiness from a dream, as their brain is still developing. It's a reminder of how delicate and complex the body is, just like how we need to maintain our BP with careful lifestyle choices and regular checkups.

It's a reflex smile, happens a lot with newborns. It's not them consciously dreaming or being happy at that stage. Just part of their neurological development. Very normal, nothing to be concerned about.

It's a beautiful sight, the innocent smile of a newborn. It signifies their pure nature. Medically, it's often a reflex. Just keep their environment calm and filled with positive energy. Take care of their well-being and yours.

Aww, it's so sweet to see! My Dadi always said it means angels are talking to them in their sleep. Scientifically, it's mostly just little muscle movements, a reflex. No harm in enjoying the sweet sight though!

Newborns often have these lovely reflex smiles in their sleep. It's usually part of their developing nervous system. Ensuring they have good nutrition through breastmilk or appropriate formula supports all their development. Such cute little moments!

Newborns smiling in sleep is usually just a reflex, not really a conscious smile. No need for any special tests for this, it's quite normal. Just enjoy the cute moments. Medical expenses for babies can be high, so it's good to know what's normal and what isn't.

These are called 'reflex smiles' or 'angel smiles' and they are perfectly normal for newborns! It's usually a spontaneous muscle contraction during their light sleep cycle (REM sleep), not a reaction to a dream. They grow out of it as they get older and start to smile consciously.

They probably had a delicious dream about their next feed! Jokes aside, those are mostly just reflex smiles. Super adorable though, always makes me want to make them happy with some good food (once they're old enough, of course!)

While most sleep smiles are normal reflexes, if you ever feel that your baby's movements or expressions in sleep seem unusual or concerning, it's always best to consult your pediatrician. My baby had some early issues, and early detection is always key.

While most sleepy smiles are just reflexes, if you ever notice other unusual facial movements or twitching that seems sustained or repetitive, it's always safest to mention it to your pediatrician. Better to be overly cautious with newborns.

That's a 'reflex smile', very common in newborns, especially when they're in light sleep. It's not a sign of dreaming yet. Just enjoy seeing your baby's cute expressions, it's a phase they grow out of naturally.
