Why do newborns make noises in their sleep?

My wife and I just had our first baby a few weeks ago. He makes so many grunts and little noises while sleeping, sometimes it sounds like a whole conversation! Is it normal for newborns to be so noisy in their sleep?

Most noises are harmless, but don't just assume. I once ignored something with my own health and regretted it. With newborns, if the noises sound strained, or they're having trouble breathing, always, always check with the pediatrician right away.

It's quite common for newborns to be noisy sleepers. Their respiratory and digestive systems are still maturing, so you'll hear grunts, snorts, little sighs. As long as they're not distressed or struggling to breathe, it's usually nothing to worry about.

Yeah, newborns can be pretty loud sleepers! Many sleep trackers or apps for babies actually monitor these sounds and can tell you if it's within normal range. Generally, it's just their tiny systems developing, processing their day. But if you have a health app, you can record and show the pediatrician.

These little ones are just exploring their voices even in their sleep, it's a blessing. Keep your heart peaceful and take good care of the baby, and of yourself, too. If there's any deep concern, listen to your instincts and speak to a doctor.

My baby sister used to make all sorts of squeaks and grunts. My mom always said it's just them digesting food or their little lungs getting stronger. It's cute, actually.

My children, and then my grandchildren, all made so many noises! Little grunts, gurgles, snores. It's just their little bodies working hard. Don't worry, it's a normal part of their early development. As long as they're feeding well and seem otherwise healthy, it's fine.
