Why do diabetics have feet problems?

I've noticed many people with diabetes, including my neighbour, complain about issues with their feet. Is this a common thing? Why do diabetics generally have foot problems?

Yaar, actually it's a big thing with diabetes. The high sugar messes up the nerves (neuropathy) so you don't feel small cuts or blisters. Plus, the blood circulation gets bad, so any wound takes forever to heal or gets infected easily. My uncle had issues like this, bohot careful rehna padta hai.

My doctor explained that diabetics often develop what's called 'neuropathy' and 'peripheral artery disease'. Neuropathy means nerve damage, leading to loss of sensation, so minor injuries go unnoticed. PAD reduces blood flow to the feet, making healing difficult and increasing infection risk. That's why even a small blister can turn serious.

It's all about nerve and blood vessel damage due to high sugar, which makes feet vulnerable. Regular check-ups are key, even if they seem costly. Investing in good diabetic socks and proper footwear is also a must to avoid bigger, more expensive complications later on.

Yes, foot problems are quite common. Controlling blood sugar is paramount, of course. My trainer always emphasizes that if your doctor permits, even gentle walks can help improve circulation in the feet and legs. But always with proper, comfortable footwear to avoid any abrasions or injuries.

My grandad has diabetes, and he's always complaining about his feet. Doc told us it's because of the nerve damage from high sugar, so they don't feel pain properly. Also, the blood flow gets bad, so small injuries become big problems. He has to check his feet every day.

Beti, in diabetes, the sugar harms the nerves and stops the blood from flowing well. So if there's a small cut, it doesn't heal easily. Always keep the feet clean and dry, and check them daily. Some say gentle massage helps, but always ask your doctor first, don't just do anything.
