Why can't i sleep without noise?

My wife likes to sleep with some music or a fan on, but if it's completely silent, I just can't fall asleep. It's like I need some background sound. Why can't I sleep without noise?

OMG, same! Total silence freaks me out sometimes. I need at least a fan sound or some lo-fi music playing in the background. My roommate thinks I'm weird but it's like, my brain needs a distraction from itself, you know?

My mother always said some people find pure silence unsettling. It gives your mind too much space to wander. Have you tried some very gentle classical music or even a fan for soft background noise? If it causes distress, a doctor's advice is always best.

While many people prefer some white noise, if it's absolutely impossible for you to sleep in silence, it might be worth mentioning to a doctor. Sometimes it can be a habit, but other times it could hint at something like anxiety or an overactive mind. Better to get it checked just in case.

Haan na! I need some background noise too. Bilkul silence mein toh mind mein thought ki dukaan khul jaati hai. White noise apps ya youtube pe sleep sounds chala lo. It helps distract your brain from overthinking, actually. Not abnormal at all, many people are like this.

I used to feel so embarrassed about this, thinking I was weird. It's like in complete silence, my anxieties would amplify. But then I found out it's actually quite common. It's okay, maybe your brain just needs something subtle to focus on instead of your thoughts.

Beta, don't worry, this is quite normal for many people. When I was younger, I also found it hard to sleep in absolute quiet. Some gentle background hum or the sound of a fan helps. It's just a way for your mind to not focus on every little internal sound or thought. You're fine.
