Why are the holidays hard on mental health?

Every year around Diwali and Christmas, I notice that many people, including myself, feel more stressed or down. Why do the holidays often have a negative impact on mental health?

Oh man, holidays are brutal! All that forced cheer, fake smiles, and answering 'when are you getting married?' for the gazillionth time. Plus, my sleep schedule goes completely out of whack. It's exhausting, honestly. I need a holiday from the holidays!

Holidays often come with increased social expectations, financial strain, disruption of routines, and for some, feelings of loneliness or grief if loved ones are absent. This combination can significantly impact mental well-being. Practicing self-care and seeking professional support if overwhelmed is crucial, and doctor's advice is always best for sustained issues.

You're absolutely right, holidays can be tough. There's so much pressure to be happy, spend money, and meet family, which can be stressful. For those who are alone or grieving, it can amplify feelings of sadness. My advice is to set realistic expectations, prioritize self-care, and don't feel obligated to do everything. It's okay to say no.

It's true, many people struggle. If you find yourself consistently feeling low or anxious during holidays, it's not something to just ignore. While it might be common, for your own mental health safety, consider talking to a counsellor or therapist. Getting it checked can make a big difference.

Yaar, holidays are actually so much pressure! Like, everyone expects you to be happy all the time, and then there are family politics and a gazillion things to do. Plus, all your routine goes for a toss. It's like a mental marathon, no? I feel you completely.

Mental health during holidays is such an important topic. The change in routine, higher stress from planning, and sometimes unrealistic expectations can really throw you off. For those with existing conditions like PCOS, hormonal fluctuations can also make managing stress harder. Be kind to yourself and prioritize what genuinely brings you peace.
