Why are inhaled steroids used to treat asthma and copd?

My chacha ji has COPD and uses an inhaler with steroids. My sister also has asthma and uses similar inhalers. I'm curious to know why inhaled steroids are a common treatment for both asthma and COPD. What do they do exactly?

When my doctor first told me about steroids, I panicked, thinking it's bad. But these are inhaled, so they work directly on your lungs to calm the inflammation. My doc explained it's a 'preventer' to stop attacks, not just for emergencies. It's actually quite normal and effective for chronic conditions.

My mother used to get asthma, and the doctor always gave her an inhaler with these steroids. They told us it helps reduce the swelling inside the breathing tubes, making it easier to breathe. It works directly in the lungs, so the side effects are less. Always trust your doctor's advice on these things.

My pulmonologist explained that inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are highly effective because they deliver the medication directly to the inflamed airways in the lungs. This significantly reduces inflammation and swelling, which are primary causes of asthma and COPD symptoms. The localized delivery means fewer systemic side effects compared to oral steroids, making them a cornerstone of long-term management for both conditions.

Please, if your doctor prescribed them, take them. I used to think I didn't need my inhaler every day, only during attacks. That was a huge mistake. Inhaled steroids prevent the inflammation that causes the attacks in the first place. Not taking them regularly led to my condition worsening. Always follow the doctor's advice.

Haha, because your lungs are basically having a party with too much inflammation, and these steroids are like the bouncers telling everyone to calm down! They go straight to the problem area, so less drama for the rest of your body. Think of it as a direct message to your lungs saying, 'Chill, bro!'

From what I understand, they're used because they directly target the inflammation in the lungs that causes breathing problems. It's a way to get the medicine right where it's needed with fewer side effects. It's important to use them as prescribed, because consistency is key for conditions like these. Don't skip doses.

Inhaled steroids are crucial for managing inflammation in respiratory conditions. Just like with my thyroid, consistent medication and doctor follow-ups are key. These steroids work locally in the lungs to reduce swelling, which helps keep the airways open and prevents attacks. It's about long-term management.
