Why are diabetics thirsty?

My mother recently got diagnosed with diabetes, and since then, she's constantly asking for water. She feels thirsty all the time, much more than before. Is this a common symptom of diabetes or something we should be more concerned about?

Diabetics often experience excessive thirst because their high blood sugar levels prompt the kidneys to work harder to filter and excrete the excess glucose. This process causes increased urination, leading to fluid loss and subsequent dehydration. Consulting a doctor for proper diabetes management is crucial to alleviate this symptom.

They feel thirsty because their body is trying to get rid of extra sugar through too much peeing, and that makes them lose water. So they need to drink more.

Excessive thirst is a classic symptom of uncontrolled diabetes, and it's a signal you shouldn't ignore. I ignored some minor symptoms for too long, and things got complicated. For diabetics, this thirst means high blood sugar is causing constant fluid loss. Get it checked and managed properly, it's vital.

Oh, that makes sense. So, if they drink water, does it help bring their sugar down, or is it just for the thirst? Is there anything else that makes them thirsty?

When I hear 'constantly thirsty,' my mind immediately goes to dehydration and its dangers. For diabetics, it's a key symptom because their body is literally trying to flush out high sugar levels, making them lose a lot of water. It must be so uncomfortable. It just underscores how critical sugar management is.
