Where do liver flukes come from?

My chacha ji was telling me about some infection in his liver, and he mentioned these 'liver flukes'. I've never heard of them before. Just curious where something like that even comes from, it sounds quite scary.

Ugh, liver flukes, just the name makes me anxious! They are typically acquired by consuming raw or undercooked freshwater fish, crustaceans, or aquatic plants contaminated with their larval forms. So, basically, avoid eating sushi from questionable places or raw veggies from unknown water sources. Better to be safe than sorry, and always cook your food well.

My doctor actually explained this when I was asking about food safety. Liver flukes are trematodes, a type of parasitic flatworm. Humans get infected by consuming raw or undercooked freshwater fish, watercress, or other aquatic plants that harbor the metacercariae (larval stage). The larvae then develop into adult flukes in the bile ducts of the liver. Proper cooking is essential to prevent this.

Don't panic about this, it's preventable! Liver flukes usually enter the human body when we eat raw or undercooked freshwater fish or aquatic plants that are contaminated. It's scary to think about, but as long as you cook your food well and maintain good hygiene, you should be fine. I used to worry about everything, but simple precautions help a lot.
