When was diabetes mellitus discovered?

I have been managing my diabetes mellitus for quite some time now. I was just curious, when was diabetes mellitus actually discovered? Sometimes I just wonder how much people knew about it in the old days.

It's totally okay to feel curious or even a bit anxious about the history of such a common condition like diabetes mellitus! It wasn't really 'discovered' in one go, but its symptoms were observed for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptian and Indian physicians documented symptoms like 'sweet urine' centuries before Christ. The term 'diabetes' came from a Greek doctor. So, a very old disease, indeed!

That's a great question! Diabetes Mellitus has a fascinatingly ancient history. It was actually described in texts from ancient Egypt and India thousands of years ago, where physicians observed symptoms like excessive urination and sweet-tasting urine. The 'mellitus' part (meaning honey-sweet) was added later. For chronic conditions like this, or my thyroid issues, regular monitoring and doctor follow-ups are crucial, whether the disease is ancient or new.

Diabetes Mellitus, like high BP, has a very long history. It was recognized by ancient physicians in Egypt and India thousands of years ago, who noted the 'sweet urine'. This just shows that lifestyle and maintaining health have always been important. It reinforces the need for regular checkups, just as I do for my BP, to catch things early.

Diabetes Mellitus has been around longer than my craving for jalebis! 😂 Ancient Egyptians and Indians were already onto it thousands of years ago, noticing the sweet taste in urine (eww, I know!). The term 'mellitus' means honey-sweet, so it literally refers to that. So yeah, not a modern discovery, but our delicious food choices might be making it more common now!

Bhai, Diabetes Mellitus koi aaj ki discovery nahi hai. Hazaaron saal pehle, Egypt aur India ke doctors ne iske lakshan pehchan liye the, jab unhone 'meetha peshab' dekha. Toh, yeh toh purani bimari hai. Humare desh mein toh 'Madhumeha' ke naam se jaani jaati thi. Bas ab modern science ne aur ache se samjha hai.

Bro, diabetes mellitus is like, super ancient. They found descriptions of it in old Egyptian texts and Indian medical books from like, thousands of years ago. The 'mellitus' part, meaning honey-sweet, came later. So yeah, it's not a new discovery at all, people have been dealing with it for centuries.
