When was cancer first discovered?

My father is undergoing treatment for cancer, and it's a very difficult time for our family. It often makes me think about how long this disease has been around. When was cancer first discovered and documented by humans?

Cancer isn't something that was 'discovered' by one person at one time, rather its understanding evolved over millennia. There's archaeological evidence of cancer in ancient human remains from thousands of years ago. The earliest written descriptions are from ancient Egypt, around 1600 BC. So, it's an ancient disease, known to humanity for a very long time.

As a parent, I've had to explain complex things to my child, and cancer's history is one of them. It's not like Columbus discovering America. It's more like observations across ancient civilizations. Egyptians documented it, and Hippocrates from Greece gave it the name 'carcinos' which means crab, due to its shape and spread. So, very old, not a new discovery.

Bhai, cancer koi aaj ki bimari nahi hai. Hazaron saal purani hai. Egypt ke purane papyrus mein bhi iska zikr hai. Aur naam 'cancer' Greek doctor Hippocrates ne diya tha bahut pehle. Toh, yeh toh purana dushman hai insaan ka, bas aajkal zyada research ho rahi hai ispe.

I was actually just looking this up! It's super interesting. Apparently, cancer isn't something that was 'first discovered' by a single person. It's been around for literally thousands of years, with evidence in ancient bones and even writings from ancient Egypt. The Greek doctor Hippocrates is credited with giving it the name 'carcinos' because it looked like a crab. So yeah, very old disease!

Oh, cancer has been around longer than my grandma's secret biryani recipe! 😂 Seriously though, it's not like someone just stumbled upon it last week. They've found traces of it in ancient mummies, and the ancient Greeks even had a word for it, 'carcinos,' because it resembled a crab. So yeah, super ancient, not a new discovery at all!

The presence of such illnesses like cancer is ancient, reflecting the impermanence of the body. It was not 'discovered' by one person, but observed and understood over time by many. Ancient wisdom often spoke of imbalances. While science has named it, remember to keep your spirit strong and calm. Take care of your well-being, inside and out.
