When was arthritis discovered?

My mother suffers from severe arthritis, and it makes her daily life very difficult. I've always wondered about this disease. When was arthritis first discovered and recognized as a medical condition?

That's an interesting question! I know with conditions like my thyroid, early diagnosis and management are key. For arthritis, historical evidence suggests it's been around for thousands of years, with signs even found in dinosaur fossils! But the term 'arthritis' and its medical understanding evolved much later. It emphasizes how important regular check-ups are for chronic conditions, even ancient ones.

Arey, yeh jo jodon ka dard hai na, yeh toh bahut purana bimari hai. Humare purane granthon mein bhi iska zikr milta hai. Logon ko pehle bhi takleef hoti thi. Tab log haldi doodh aur tel malish karte the. Par 'arthritis' naam toh angrezon ne diya hoga, angrezi waale. Aise sawalon se toh purani baatein yaad aa jaati hain.

Arthritis has probably been around forever, people just called it different things like 'gathiya' in Hindi. I've tried so many home remedies for joint pain myself! But as for when it was 'discovered' by modern medicine, that's a different story. The actual clinical definition and treatment started becoming clearer much later, in the last few centuries. It just shows how long people have suffered.

Arthritis, as a condition affecting joints, has a very long history, with archaeological evidence found in prehistoric times. The term 'arthritis' itself comes from Greek words 'arthron' (joint) and 'itis' (inflammation), and was used in medical texts much later, around the 17th century, to describe joint inflammation. So while the disease is ancient, its formal medical definition is more recent.

Dude, arthritis is like super old, my grandpa has it. They found signs of it in old mummies and stuff, so like, literally thousands of years ago. The name 'arthritis' and like, proper medical understanding is more recent, from a few centuries back. But the pain, that's been there since forever, I guess.
