When to worry about hernia pain?

I've had a small hernia for a while, and it usually doesn't bother me. But lately, the pain has been a bit more intense and throbbing. When should I start to seriously worry about hernia pain and seek immediate medical attention?

My son had an umbilical hernia as a baby. The doctor said we needed to watch for it becoming hard, painful, or if it changed color. For adults, if the pain is sudden, severe, or if the bulge cannot be pushed back in, that's a serious sign. Please see a doctor immediately if that happens.

I sometimes feel a dull ache in my groin area, but there's no visible bulge. Could that be a hernia? Or is it only when there's a bulge and severe pain that one should worry?

With diabetes, we have to be careful about everything, even small pains. Hernia pain, if it becomes really sharp, constant, or you feel sick like vomiting, that's a sign to worry. Don't ignore it. It's different from general muscle pain. A doctor will need to check it properly.

Listen to your body, for it is a temple. If the pain from a hernia is sudden, intense, or causes fever or nausea, it is a clear sign from above to seek medical help immediately. Maintain peace of mind, but do not neglect physical well-being. Take care.

Any pain that's severe, sudden, or accompanied by symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or a fever, especially with a hernia, means you need emergency care. Don't delay. Go to a good hospital and ask them to check for incarceration or strangulation. These are serious conditions that need immediate attention.
