When to take infant to doctor fever?
My 9-month-old son has had a low-grade fever for a day now, about 99.8-100.2. He's eating okay but a bit cranky. At what temperature or with what other symptoms should I definitely take him to the doctor?

Just last month my little one had a fever and I was in such a fix! Our pediatrician said if the baby is under 3 months and has a fever of 100.4F (38C) or higher, go immediately. For older babies, if it's over 102F, or if they look really unwell, not drinking, or very sleepy, it's time to see the doc. Don't wait too long!
Please be very careful with infant fevers. My cousin delayed taking his baby to the doctor once, thinking it was just a viral, and it turned out to be something serious. Always consult a doctor for a baby under 3 months with any fever. For older ones, if the fever is persistent or the baby shows any alarming symptoms like lethargy or difficulty breathing, rush them to the clinic. Better safe than sorry, always.
I understand the worry, infant fevers are so stressful! While I do try warm compresses and keeping them hydrated, for an infant, especially a newborn, you really shouldn't delay. If your baby is under 3 months with any fever, or an older baby has a high fever (above 102F) that isn't coming down, or is showing other worrying signs like reduced feeding or activity, please see the doctor right away. Trust your gut feeling too.
For infant fever, there's no question, go to the doctor immediately if it's a very young baby, say under 3 months, with any fever. For older ones, if the fever is really high or they're not active or eating. It's like with my BP, regular checkups are crucial, and for babies, a fever can escalate quickly. Don't rely on guesswork.

It's so confusing sometimes, when to go and when to just wait. So, if my baby is 6 months old and has a fever of 101F, but is still feeding and playing a bit, should I still go right away, or can I try some home care first? What if the fever lasts for more than a day?
