When to stop metformin in chronic kidney disease?

My father has chronic kidney disease and is on Metformin for his diabetes. His reports recently showed some changes, and I'm worried if it's time to stop the Metformin. When is it typically discontinued in such cases?

I had a similar issue. My kidney function started declining, and my doctor adjusted my metformin dosage gradually and eventually stopped it. They switched me to other meds. It's not a sudden stop; it's closely monitored. Please see your nephrologist.

Oh man, trying to figure out meds in CKD is like solving a Rubik's Cube blindfolded! Don't try it yourself. Your kidney doctor is the only one who can tell you when to put the metformin down. They've got the map for your kidneys, trust me.

For something as serious as chronic kidney disease and metformin, home remedies are definitely not the answer. You absolutely need to follow your nephrologist's instructions. They will monitor your kidney function very closely and tell you exactly when and how to stop or adjust the medication.

Beta, when the kidneys are involved, every medicine has to be checked carefully. My friend had a similar situation, and his doctor changed his diabetes medicine. Don't worry, just follow your doctor's advice exactly.

No time for guesswork here. Metformin needs to be managed precisely in CKD. Schedule an urgent consultation with your nephrologist. They'll assess your GFR and renal function to make the call. Don't delay.
