When to seek medical attention for kidney stones?

My husband has been having severe pain in his back and side, and he thinks it might be kidney stones, as his father also had them. When should we definitely seek medical attention for kidney stones, instead of just waiting to see if it passes?

Oh my god, kidney stones sound like pure agony, I totally get why you'd be asking! The pain can be excruciating, I've heard. If you have severe, sharp pain in your back or side that doesn't go away, blood in your urine, fever with chills, or difficulty urinating, you absolutely need to see a doctor quickly. Don't suffer alone.

I've heard kidney stone pain is one of the worst! From what I've looked up, if the pain is so bad you can't get comfortable, or if you have fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or blood in your urine, those are definite red flags to see a doctor. Also if you can't pass urine at all. Sounds really urgent!

I know someone who ignored initial symptoms of kidney stones, thinking it was just back pain, and it led to severe infection and hospitalization. If you're experiencing intense pain, especially with fever, chills, or difficulty passing urine, it's critical to see a doctor immediately. Don't wait for complications.

The thought of kidney stones can be incredibly distressing and scary. It's completely valid to feel worried and overwhelmed. If you're having severe, debilitating pain, or if you're seeing blood in your urine, please seek medical help right away. It's important to get proper care and not deal with that kind of pain alone.

Look, if the pain is unbearable, like a sharp, cramping pain in your back or side, and it's coming in waves, that's a classic kidney stone symptom that needs a doctor. Also, if you notice blood in your pee, or you have fever/chills with the pain, don't delay. Go to the ER, they can assess and manage the pain.

Okay, so I once had really bad back pain and panicked it was kidney stones, but it was just muscle strain! However, with actual kidney stones, the pain is usually much, much sharper and moves around. If you're experiencing truly severe pain, blood in urine, or fever, please get to a doctor. Don't assume anything; let the pros confirm.

Kidney stones? That sounds like the kind of pain that would keep anyone awake, even me, and I can sleep through anything! If you're having serious, stabbing pain that's making you want to rip your hair out, or if you're throwing up because of the pain, definitely get to a doctor. Sleep is precious, but health is more!
