When to medicate a fever?
My son has a fever of 101°F. He's a bit fussy but otherwise seems okay. When is it appropriate to give him fever medication, or should I just let it run its course for a bit?

With kids, I usually medicate if it hits 101°F (38.3°C) or higher, or if they are very uncomfortable and irritable even with a lower fever. For adults, if it's making you miserable or affecting your daily activities, or if it's above 100.4°F (38°C), then it's reasonable to take something like paracetamol. Always good to check with a doctor if unsure, especially for prolonged fever.
It's a common confusion. Many people wonder about this.
For a low fever, sometimes a cold compress or a light khichdi helps. But if it's very high, like above 100-101F, or if you feel very weak and unwell, then it's time for medicine. Always keep crocin at home, but consult a doctor if it doesn't go down or you feel too sick.
It's tough when you're feeling unwell and trying to decide. The emotional toll of just *feeling* sick can be enough to make you want to medicate. Listen to your body. If the fever is making you feel miserable and interfering with sleep or rest, it's okay to take something for comfort. But if it's persistent or very high, definitely talk to a doctor.
Simple rule: if it's making you really uncomfortable or hitting above 101°F (38.3°C), take paracetamol. But if it's staying high for more than a day, or you have other severe symptoms, don't delay, see a doctor immediately. Don't overthink, just be practical.
Oh, I get so anxious about fevers, always wondering if I'm waiting too long or medicating too soon! Generally, if it's really making you uncomfortable, like body aches and chills, even a lower grade fever can be medicated. But if it's very high, like above 102°F or lasts more than a day or two, please, please see a doctor. Don't stress too much, just be observant.
I once thought a low-grade fever would just go away on its own and ended up with a nasty infection. Never again! If your fever is above 100°F (38°C) and you're feeling unwell, or if it doesn't come down with basic remedies, please consult a doctor. Don't ignore it like I did.
