When to be concerned about a fever in infants?

My sister just had a baby, and he's only 3 months old. He's developed a slight fever and my sister is very worried. When should one be concerned about a fever in infants, like at what temperature or with what other symptoms?

Oh, fever in infants is so scary! I totally overthink every little sniffle. But for fever, definitely be concerned if the baby is under 3 months old and has a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. And if they're older but the fever is very high, or they're lethargic, not feeding, or have difficulty breathing, get to the doctor ASAP. It's better to be safe.

It's completely normal to feel worried when your infant has a fever. For babies under 3 months, any fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher is a red flag and needs immediate medical attention. For older infants, look for very high fever, poor feeding, extreme fussiness or lethargy, or trouble breathing. Trust your parental instincts and see a doctor.

Infant fever? My doctor told me if they're less than 3 months old and temp is even 100.4°F (38°C), drop everything, even that half-eaten samosa, and rush to the doc! For older ones, if they look really sick, not eating, or acting weird, then jugaad won't work, hospital is the way. Don't play doctor with tiny humans!

Dealing with an infant's fever is so emotionally taxing, I remember just crying with worry. The key thing I learned is, if your baby is under 3 months and has a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, it's an emergency. For older babies, if the fever is very high, they're unresponsive, struggling to breathe, or not drinking fluids, you need to see a doctor immediately. Your worry is valid, and seeking help is the right thing to do.

As a parent, I’ve been through this many times. For an infant under 3 months, ANY fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or more is a serious concern, go to the ER immediately. For babies 3-6 months, if it's over 102°F (39°C) or they're very cranky/lethargic. For older babies, look for lack of appetite, no wet diapers, or other concerning symptoms. Always trust your gut and consult a pediatrician.

Oh, that's good to know. So if the baby is under 3 months, even a slight fever is serious? What if they're otherwise active and feeding fine?

My family elders always said to keep a cool head with baby fevers. But for infants, especially if they are very young (under 3 months), any fever above 100.4°F (38°C) is a signal to see the doctor quickly. For older babies, if they are not active, not eating, or seem very unwell, don't delay. Doctor's advice is paramount.

This is a very important question for new parents! If your baby is under 3 months old and has a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, you must see a doctor immediately. For older infants, be concerned if the fever is very high, lasts more than 24 hours, or if your baby isn't feeding, seems unusually sleepy, or has trouble breathing. Always better to get it checked quickly.
