When is vomiting an emergency?
My mother is quite old and has been vomiting for a few hours now, and she seems very weak. When does vomiting become serious enough that it needs immediate medical attention, like going to the emergency room?

Okay, vomiting is an emergency when it's like, non-stop for hours and you're basically seeing your life flash before your eyes because you can't even hold down water. Also, if it happens at 3 AM and you're already exhausted, that feels like an emergency to me! 😩
If it's intense and continuous, making you weak, that's not good. Especially if you can't keep any electrolytes or water down. Dehydration will hit you hard and affect your whole system. Better to consult a doc if it lasts too long.
For me, it becomes an emergency if I start feeling super dizzy or lightheaded, can't even stand properly. Or if it's accompanied by really bad abdominal pain or high fever. That's when I know I need to see a doctor quickly to avoid dehydration or worse.
Look, if you're throwing up blood, or if the vomit looks like coffee grounds, that's a serious sign. Also, if you have a really bad headache, stiff neck, or extreme stomach pain along with it, you should go to the hospital right away. Don't just dismiss it.
When you've thrown up so much that you can't even think about food, let alone crave anything, then it's serious! Jokes aside, if you can't keep even plain water down and you're feeling very weak, better to get it checked. Don't let it spoil your appetite permanently!

I can only share what happened to me. I had continuous vomiting for almost a full day and felt so weak I couldn't move. My family insisted I go to the ER, and they put me on fluids. So for me, when it wouldn't stop and I was severely dehydrated, it was an emergency.
Time is key. If vomiting is constant and prevents you from going about your day for more than 12-24 hours, or if there's any blood, severe pain, or confusion, don't delay. Go to the nearest hospital or ER. Prompt action can prevent complications.
