When is it too late to reverse gum disease?

My gums have been bleeding a lot lately when I brush, and I'm worried it's getting serious. My dentist said it looks like gum disease. Is there a point where it becomes too late to reverse gum disease completely?

Honestly, for gum disease, it's too late for a full 'reversal' when it progresses past gingivitis to full-blown periodontitis, where bone loss around your teeth starts. At that point, you can only manage it, not completely reverse the damage. I ignored my bleeding gums for too long, and now I have to be super careful. Please get it checked early, don't make my mistake!

As a dentist, I can tell you that early gum disease (gingivitis) is fully reversible with proper brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. However, once it advances to periodontitis, where there's bone loss and pockets around the teeth, the damage to the bone cannot be fully reversed. At that stage, treatment focuses on arresting the progression and managing the condition to save the teeth. Timely intervention is absolutely crucial; don't wait.

I'm a bit confused. So, if my gums bleed when I brush, does that mean it's already too late? Or can that still be fixed? Should I go to a dentist right away?

The early stage, gingivitis, can be reversed with good oral hygiene and home care. But once it progresses to periodontitis, where the bone supporting your teeth gets damaged, it's not truly reversible; you can only manage it and prevent further damage. If your gums are bleeding or painful, definitely see a dentist; don't rely only on salt water rinses for serious issues.

Oh, gum disease is no fun! It’s really too late to completely reverse it when it gets serious and starts affecting the bone, not just the gums. So, if you love to eat, better take care of your teeth and gums properly! Regular cleaning is a must, don't let it get to that stage where you can't enjoy your favourite biryani anymore!
